Professor Rodrigo Mariño

Associate Professor Rodrigo Mariño is a public health dentist and a Principal Research Fellow and Reader at the Oral Health Cooperative Research Centre (OH-CRC), Melbourne Dental School, The University of Melbourne. Rodrigo has a dental degree from the University of Chile, and a PhD from the University of Melbourne.   Rodrigo has also been a consultant to the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization in Washington, DC.

 In 2004 Rodrigo was appointed at the OH-CRC/Oral Health Informatics Program (OHIP) in the Melbourne Dental School, University of Melbourne. As the senior researcher in OHIP, appointed as its inception, Rodrigo was responsible for establishing the Program. Since then, A/Prof Mariño has been responsible for the planning and prioritizing of OH-CRC research projects and activities undertaken within the program in line with the objectives of the OH-CRC and the Melbourne Dental School, and according to National and State priorities in oral health.

A/Prof Mariño is currently involved in several interdisciplinary and international research projects in the areas of:

  • Acculturation
  • Social and cultural determinants of health
  • Health in migrant communities
  • Preventive dentistry
  • Community dentistry and oral epidemiology
  • Teledentistry
